How My Passion for
Photography and Horses Became My Life
Your Horse Photographer, Cheerleader, and Fellow Equestrian
If you would’ve told me years ago that I’d be a full-time Western horse photographer, covered in arena dust, camera in hand, and grinning ear to ear—I probably would’ve laughed (and taken another sip of coffee). But here we are, and I wouldn’t trade it for the world!
How It Started… becoming a Horse Photographer: My Journey
I actually stumbled into photography by accident. Years ago, I won a Canon camera in a giveaway (best prize ever, right?), and suddenly, I was that person—chasing my kids, my dogs, and pretty much anything that moved, trying to freeze moments in time. Fast forward, and my passion turned into a career—one that lets me combine my love for horses, people, and storytelling through the lens.
Oh, and fun fact? I didn’t just pick up a camera—I picked up the reins too. I show in Ranch Riding, with a special love for Ranch Cutting. My heart horse, JJ, and I won a buckle in our first year, and now her baby, Penny, is learning the ropes. So trust me, I get the horse life—early mornings, late-night feedings, and that feeling when your horse just knows what you’re thinking.
It was simple, but it sparked something in me that’s only grown stronger over the years.
As time went on, my two biggest loves—horses and photography—naturally came together.
Why Horses?
Horses have been part of my life for as long as I can remember. I show in Ranch Riding myself, with my favorite classes being Ranch Cutting and Ranch Riding. I know firsthand the hours of hard work, dedication, and love that go into building that connection with your horse. It’s not just about the ride—it’s about trust, partnership, and the passion we pour into every moment.
That’s why photographing horses is so special to me. I understand what these animals mean to their owners. They’re family, partners, and sometimes our therapists. Capturing that bond is what I live for.
What It’s Like to Work with Me
First off, let’s drop the pressure—this isn’t a stiff, awkward photoshoot. It’s just you, your horse, and me capturing the magic in between. Whether we’re out in a golden pasture, at a horse show, or knee-deep in an arena kicking up dust, I’ll guide you through the whole process. Never know what to do with your hands? No worries—I’ve got tips, tricks, and plenty of encouragement (plus, horses are the best at keeping things candid).
On the Road as a Horse Photographer
Traveling across the country as a horse photographer is one of the most rewarding parts of my work. I love meeting new people, hearing their stories, and connecting with their horses.
