Gunther: The Heart Horse Who Changed Everything

Gunther isn’t just a horse. For the last 20 years, he’s been the horse—the one who’s always there, steady and kind, no matter what life throws your way. He’s carried Chessa through her own journey, given her daughters their first taste of freedom on horseback, and been a quiet teacher for sisters and friends who’ve had the privilege to ride him.

Now, at nearly 24 years old, Gunther is enjoying his golden years. He’s been dealing with painful leg issues, but his heart is still as big as ever. He spends his days in peaceful retirement, occasionally giving the girls a light ride around the farm, and soaking in all the love that surrounds him.

This session was all about honoring him—a horse who has given so much and touched so many lives.

Of course, no session would be complete without a little extra fun! Chessa brought along Chisum, the family’s spunky pony, and Gruffy, her three-year-old colt. Chisum kept everyone entertained with his cheeky attitude, and Gruffy’s youthful curiosity brought a playful energy to the photos.

Together, they added layers of joy to an already emotional session.
