A DAY AT CREEKSIDE

The Heart of Western Horse Sports

I headed to Creekside in Ringgold, Georgia, for a day centered around reining horses, their riders, and the people behind them.

Working alongside Alex from Case Performance and Kyndall Harper Peeples, I got to photograph not only the horses in action, but the family and everyday moments that make a place like Creekside what it is.

There was plenty of horse action, plenty of time with family and friends, and the kind of Western atmosphere that makes you want to keep your camera in your hand all day.

WHY I LOVE REINING

There’s Nothing Quite Like a Reining Horse in Motion.

Reining horses demand your attention.

The spins, slides, stops, and changes of direction happen quickly, and when everything comes together, there is a very specific kind of power to it. The horse is athletic, the rider has to be precise, and the timing matters.

Photographing that kind of movement is completely different from photographing a horse standing still. You have to anticipate what is coming rather than simply react to it.

MORE THAN THE ACTION

The Horses Were Only Part of the Story.

We started with family portraits and quieter moments before moving into the action.

That part of the day matters just as much to me. The horses are obviously the reason I am there, but the people standing beside them are part of the story too.

Kyndall’s time with her horses, her family, and the people around Creekside gave us plenty to photograph before the first slide even happened.

SPINS · SLIDES · POWER

This Is Why I Love Photographing Reining.

Once the horses went to work, everything changed.

The slides were fast. The spins were precise. The stops happened in an instant. Those are the frames where timing matters most — waiting for the exact moment when the horse’s movement, the rider’s position, and the expression all come together.

THE DETAILS MATTER

The Frames Between the Big Moments Matter, Too.

A good reining gallery should not be made up of nothing but slides and stops.

I want the details around those moments too — the horse standing quietly, the rider preparing, the family watching, the expressions, the little interactions, and everything that gives the day some context.

Those photographs help tell the whole story of what it was like to actually be there.

THE KIND OF DAY I LOVE TO PHOTOGRAPH

Horses, People, Action — All in One Place.

This day at Creekside was a good reminder of why I enjoy photographing Western horses so much.

You get the athletic side of the horse, the relationship between horse and rider, the family standing beside them, and all the small moments that happen around the horses.

That combination gives you a gallery that feels like more than a collection of action shots. It shows what the day actually looked and felt like.
