Family Portraits with Horses in Tennessee: Why Your Horse Belongs in the Photos

Some horses come into our lives at exactly the right time.

When Annabeth first reached out and we had our consultation call, I knew right away that Molly was more than just a horse—she was family. Of course, we needed to capture the entire family together, but I also wanted to make sure Annabeth had beautiful portraits with her mare.

During this family and horse photoshoot in Kingston, TN, at the absolutely stunning Winding Creek Equestrian Stable, Annabeth shared something that instantly made these images even more meaningful: she bought Molly while she was pregnant with Collins.

How special is that?

Before Collins was born, Molly was already part of the story. Now, watching Collins grow up alongside this incredible mare is something special.

As we photographed their session, I couldn’t help but think about how lucky they are to have each other. Watching them interact throughout the evening was one of my favorite parts of the session. The curiosity Collins had, the smiles and the the laughter are exactly why I love toddler and horse photography.

These are the moments families want to remember.

Kind Words

….. She was fantastic with our toddler and horse and made family pictures an enjoyable experience

We had the best experience ever with Nicole! She was fantastic with our toddler and horse and made family pictures an enjoyable experience despite our dislike for being in the spotlight! She made us feel comfortable in front of the camera and our daughter absolutely loved her! She delivered sneak peek photos within 24 hours of the shoot and delivered the entire gallery before her estimated deadline. Will definitely be our go to photographer in future years, very thankful for how she captured our family in our current season of life!

Your Horse Is Family—So Why Leave Them Out?

One of the questions I hear most often is: “Can we include our horse in our family photos?” Absolutely.

For horse owners, horses are family. They’re there through milestones, celebrations, challenges, and everyday moments. During this session, Molly wasn’t simply included in a few photos—she was part of the Photoshoot from beginning to the end.

We captured the entire family together, sweet moments between Collins and Molly, and beautiful portraits of Annabeth with her mare. These are the kinds of horse owner family photos that tell the complete story of a season in your life.

The result was a gallery full of moments and plenty of variety.

One Session, Three Stories ….

One of the things I loved most about this session was how many different stories we were able to tell in one evening.

01. Family Portraits with Molly

Of course, we started with the entire family together. These images captured everyone who makes this family complete—including Molly. For families looking for family portraits with horses in Tennessee, this is one of my favorite ways to document every member of the family.

02. Collins and Molly

Some of the sweetest moments happened when Collins was simply spending time with Molly. There was no pressure and no perfect posing. Just a little girl and a horse she adores.

03. Annabeth and Molly

We finished with a horse and rider photography session focused on Annabeth and Molly. These portraits highlighted the connection they’ve built.
These portraits highlighted the connection they’ve built over the years and created images that felt both timeless and personal.

What If My Toddler Doesn’t Cooperate?

Let’s be honest—every parent worries about this. The truth is, toddlers don’t need to sit perfectly still for beautiful photos. Collins needed to be in bed by a certain time, so we planned an earlier session.
Instead of expecting perfection, we allowed her to explore, interact with Molly, and simply be herself.
This way everyone was happy and we got the perfect Photos together.

Some of the best toddler and horse photography moments happen when children are free to be curious and comfortable. The goal isn’t perfect behavior.

You’re not in this alone—I’ve got you every step of the way.

Frequently Asked Questions About Family and Horse Photoshoot

Where do family and horse photoshoots take place in Tennessee?

I photograph family and horse photoshoots throughout East Tennessee, including Kingston, Chattanooga, Dayton, Cleveland, and surrounding areas. Whether you’re looking for open fields, your family farm, or your horse’s home barn, we’ll find the perfect location for your session.

Can we get family photos and horse portraits during the same session?

Yes! That’s exactly what Annabeth and Blake did. With a little planning, we can capture family portraits, horse and rider photos, and special moments between your children and horse all in one session.

What should I wear for a family and horse photoshoot?

I recommend choosing outfits that complement each other without matching exactly. Bringing a second outfit for your horse-and-rider portraits is also a great way to add variety to your gallery.

Are horse photoshoots safe for toddlers?

Safety is always my top priority. Every horse, child, and situation is different, but I work closely with families to create images that are both beautiful and safe while allowing children to interact naturally.

What is the best age for toddler and horse photography?

There really isn’t a perfect age. Every stage brings something unique. Toddlers often create some of the sweetest moments because they’re naturally curious and full of personality.

I photograph horse and rider sessions across Tennessee, North Georgia, and Alabama—including Dayton, Chattanooga, Cleveland, and the surrounding areas.
